“椛” is the kanji for もみじ, autumn maple leaves, and is pronounced the same as 「華」. It carries forward the roots of 華道, while also suggesting the turning of the seasons and the transformations of life, just like the changing colours and rhythms of our different life stages. 「楽」 comes from a stroke in my own name, carrying a sense of inheritance, and also represents the hope that here everyone can relax and enjoy the pleasure of creating among the flowers.

Lillian Chu started practicing Ikenobo Ikebana since 2013, already feeling badly burnt out in her early 30s working in legal and finance sector for several years, she became deeply captivated by the tranquil philosophy behind the sophisticated beauty of ikebana. She started anew from scratch, subsequently earned her highest professorship title in ikebana at Ikenobo Headquarter in Kyoto after studying there for over 7 years. Throughout the years Lillian devoted her life passionately to the art of ikebana in Japan and Hong Kong, receiving awards and recognitions in both places.
Lillian is dedicated to bringing a Zen way of reconnecting ourselves with nature through creating innovative ikebana works based on ancient wisdom of “the way of flowers”, nourishing our consciousness to observe the unique beauty and power in all living plants, appreciate the delicate balance of harmony not just in this impermanent physical world but also within our inner self, ultimately we celebrate the transient beauty of life, right here right now; by arranging with plants we reflect on and cleanse our mind and soul.
She started her own ikebana studio in Hong Kong in January 2019, in hope to build a spiritual oasis much needed in this metropolitan city, while sharing her passion through the lifelong journey of ikebana with people in her hometown.
